The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) is a beautiful planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius, approximately 655 light-years away. It has sometimes been called the “Eye of Sauron.”
This image combines five 300-second exposures through each of five filters: red, green, blue, hydrogen-alpha and oxygen-III. The data was captured with the remotely controlled iTelescope T30 at Siding Spring Observatory, Australia.
The telescope is a 500 mm PlaneWave operating at f/4.5. The image was processed entirely in PixInsight.
